Maoriland Film Festival

Friday march 22nd, my school went tot the Maoriland Film Festival at Nga Pura Pura. We walked down to Nga Pura Pura just after school started. When we got there we watched 8 films. My two favourites were Fast Horse and Spirit, although spirit made me cry cause it was scary it was good.  It was about a man and a woman in there house late at night about to  watch a movie and all of a sudden a man dressed like a nun pops up from outside the window. Fast Horse  is about a Indian man doing a horse relay and he comes last but he tried and trained for ages!

I really enjoyed watching the films !!

Yesterday my class and other year 7/8 classes went to Wellington early in the morning. We went and saw 3 shows, Trolls, Wolf gangs magical musical circus and Gabez (mime). I'm gonna write about the wolf gang show.

The wolf gang show was at the opera house Wellington. This show was the second one that we watched. It was my favourite.

There were three main characters but they had no name. There was a women and two men. one of the men just played an instrument and the other man and women did all kind of tricks and stunts.

It was really cool my group got to sit in the top chairs so we had a really good view. They performed really well. They were really funny!

They were the best show from the whole day I would really like to watch them perform again.

My Act of Kindness

Today I will be writing about what act of kindness i want to achieve. My act of kindness I would like to achieve is care and respect for others. Meaning help them, do things for them and be kind to them.

Another thing I would like to achieve is pushing myself more when I do school work. Like put more descriptive words in my writing or do harder maths problems.

I would like to achieve these or get better at them by the end of the term.

SS Otaki commeration recount

March 11th I attended the SS Otaki commemoration day. What it is, is a commemoration to remember those that fought their lives for us. This is what happened yesterday.

Whaea Maharata, Whaea destine and another teacher started a karanga welcoming all the visitors into our school. There  were people from all over Aotearoa coming to Otaki college just for the commemoration. We are the only school in New Zealand to do the commemoration.

Next one of the important people did a reading of the time it happened. And about people who were in the navy fighting for our country.

Then we had the wreaths laying ceremony which is where people who came to represent there work team layed wreaths on behalf of all the others who couldn't come. There were a lot of wreaths. They were layed one the monument and on some stands to hold them up.

Finally we ended it with a prayer/ karakia to remember those that went into the navy and fought for New Zealand. We also had a minute of silence to remember them.

1 thing I enjoyed was singing both the songs and 1 thing I learned is the the SS Otaki ship sunk during world war 1.

Learning how to write sentences

Today a lady from write that essay named Mrs Larnder came in and taught us how to write sentences. She gave us ten single words and we had to make sentences out of them. We used prepositions, adverbs. I learnt what a subject is.

My group made four sentences out of the ten single words and then six sentences with the ten words that were combined. I thought it was quite fun and I would do it again.
