SS Otaki commeration recount

March 11th I attended the SS Otaki commemoration day. What it is, is a commemoration to remember those that fought their lives for us. This is what happened yesterday.

Whaea Maharata, Whaea destine and another teacher started a karanga welcoming all the visitors into our school. There  were people from all over Aotearoa coming to Otaki college just for the commemoration. We are the only school in New Zealand to do the commemoration.

Next one of the important people did a reading of the time it happened. And about people who were in the navy fighting for our country.

Then we had the wreaths laying ceremony which is where people who came to represent there work team layed wreaths on behalf of all the others who couldn't come. There were a lot of wreaths. They were layed one the monument and on some stands to hold them up.

Finally we ended it with a prayer/ karakia to remember those that went into the navy and fought for New Zealand. We also had a minute of silence to remember them.

1 thing I enjoyed was singing both the songs and 1 thing I learned is the the SS Otaki ship sunk during world war 1.
